Service overview

Fencing in Southend-on-Sea: what's involved.

What it is

Fencing covers installing new boundary fences, replacing damaged panels and posts, and fitting gravel boards to keep timber off the ground.

Who it's for

Homeowners with leaning or storm-damaged fences, people wanting more privacy, and landlords maintaining rental gardens.

When you need it

When panels have blown down, posts have rotted or loosened, or you want a new boundary or more privacy.

Why professional help matters

A fence is only as strong as its posts. Properly set posts and gravel boards help a fence stay upright and last longer.

The cost of waiting

What happens if it's left, or done badly.

A leaning fence gets worse with every windy day and can fall onto plants, cars or neighbouring property. Rotten posts spread failure along the run.

Risks that escalate

  • Panels blowing down in storms
  • Damage to neighbouring property
  • Loss of privacy and security
  • Pets escaping
  • Higher cost when more panels fail

Common mistakes we see

  • Posts not set deep enough
  • Timber in direct contact with soil
  • Replacing panels without checking posts
  • Cheap panels that warp quickly
  • Ignoring boundary positions with neighbours

Posts are what matter

Most fence failures start at the posts. Set too shallow or left with timber in contact with wet soil, they rot or rock loose. Properly set posts, and gravel boards to keep panels off the ground, are what keep a fence standing through Essex winds.

Timber or concrete posts

Concrete posts and gravel boards resist rot and suit exposed gardens. Timber posts look more natural and are easier to cut and fix to. We'll advise on the best option for your garden.

Replace a panel or the run?

If a single panel has blown out, replacement may be all that's needed. If several posts are loose or rotting, replacing the full run is usually better value than repeated repairs. We'll check and give you a straight recommendation.

Who carries out the work

PCR is owner-led. Jordan Thomas manages every project personally and works on site, supported by a trusted network of electricians, plasterers, carpenters, decorators and tilers chosen to suit each job. Before founding the company, Jordan spent around nine years in mechanical engineering, specialising in plumbing and heating, and progressed into managing projects. That background shapes how work is planned: services first, surfaces prepared properly, and each stage checked before the next begins.
