Service overview
Internal Alterations & Door Fitting in Southend-on-Sea: what's involved.
What it is
Internal alterations include building or removing non-structural partition walls, reconfiguring room layouts, boxing-in, and fitting or adjusting internal doors, frames and ironmongery.
Who it's for
Homeowners wanting better use of space, families needing an extra room, and anyone with doors that stick, swing open or look dated.
When you need it
When a layout no longer suits you, during a renovation, or when doors drag, don't latch or need replacing for a consistent look.
Why professional help matters
Alterations touch several trades: carpentry, plastering, electrics and decorating. Coordinating them avoids delays and gives a finish that looks original to the house.

The cost of waiting
What happens if it's left, or done badly.
A poor layout makes a home harder to live in every day. Sticking doors wear their hinges and frames and often signal movement or poor hanging.
Risks that escalate
- Wasted space and awkward layouts
- Damage to door frames from forcing
- Doors that won't latch, reducing privacy
- Uncoordinated trades causing delays
- Rework when alterations aren't finished properly
Common mistakes we see
- Planning a wall without checking services
- Hanging doors without allowing for floor heights
- Leaving making good to the end
- Using separate trades with no overall responsibility
- Removing walls without checking whether they're structural

Structural or not?
Many internal walls are non-structural partitions that can be moved or removed relatively simply. Others carry load from floors or the roof and need proper design. We assess walls at the site visit and advise honestly on what's involved.
Planning around services
Walls often carry cables, switches and pipes. Moving them means rerouting services first, with certified electrical work carried out by qualified electricians. Planning this early avoids delays and unexpected costs.
Hanging doors properly
Consistent gaps around the door, hinges set square and latches that catch cleanly are signs of a door hung well. New floor coverings change heights, so doors may need trimming. We allow for this so doors close properly first time.
Who carries out the work
PCR is owner-led. Jordan Thomas manages every project personally and works on site, supported by a trusted network of electricians, plasterers, carpenters, decorators and tilers chosen to suit each job. Before founding the company, Jordan spent around nine years in mechanical engineering, specialising in plumbing and heating, and progressed into managing projects. That background shapes how work is planned: services first, surfaces prepared properly, and each stage checked before the next begins.
