Service overview
Flooring Installation in Southend-on-Sea: what's involved.
What it is
Flooring installation includes lifting old coverings, checking and preparing the subfloor, fitting underlay or levelling compound, laying the new floor and finishing with trims, thresholds and skirting.
Who it's for
Homeowners updating one room or a whole floor, people finishing a kitchen or bathroom renovation, and landlords who need a durable, easy-clean surface.
When you need it
When carpets are worn, laminate is lifting or damaged, floors creak or bounce, or you're renovating and want a consistent finish through the house.
Why professional help matters
A floor is only as good as what's under it. Uneven or unsound subfloors cause gaps, squeaks, lifting joints and cracked tiles. Professional preparation prevents these.

The cost of waiting
What happens if it's left, or done badly.
Damaged flooring traps dirt, becomes a trip hazard and can let moisture reach the subfloor. Squeaks and movement usually signal loose boards that get worse with time.
Risks that escalate
- Trip hazards from lifting edges
- Moisture damage to subfloors
- Gaps and joint failure in laminate
- Cracked tiles from flexing floors
- Doors catching on raised floor levels
Common mistakes we see
- Laying over uneven or damp subfloors
- Skipping expansion gaps
- Wrong underlay for the floor type
- Not trimming doors to suit new heights
- Laying floors before other trades have finished

Choosing the right floor
Laminate is affordable and hard-wearing for living areas. Engineered wood gives real timber character with better stability than solid wood. LVT copes well with water and suits kitchens and bathrooms. Tiles are the most durable for heavy use. We'll talk through how each suits your rooms, pets and budget.
Subfloor preparation
Squeaks, gaps, bouncing and cracked tiles almost always trace back to the subfloor. Loose boards are refixed, uneven areas levelled, and timber floors may be overboarded with ply before tiling. This step decides how long your new floor will last.
Finishing details
Expansion gaps, thresholds between rooms, skirting or beading, and trimming doors to suit new floor heights are what make a floor look professionally fitted. We include these so the job is finished, not just laid.
Who carries out the work
PCR is owner-led. Jordan Thomas manages every project personally and works on site, supported by a trusted network of electricians, plasterers, carpenters, decorators and tilers chosen to suit each job. Before founding the company, Jordan spent around nine years in mechanical engineering, specialising in plumbing and heating, and progressed into managing projects. That background shapes how work is planned: services first, surfaces prepared properly, and each stage checked before the next begins.
